Your Right to a Chaperone
At our practice, we are committed to ensuring your comfort, dignity, and privacy at all times.
Certain examinations or procedures may be considered intimate. In these situations, it is our policy to offer you a chaperone – a trained member of staff who will be present during the examination.
Respecting Your Dignity and Beliefs
We will always respect your privacy, dignity, and your religious and cultural beliefs, particularly when intimate examinations are necessary.
These examinations will only be carried out with your express agreement, and you will always be offered the option of having a chaperone present if you wish.
Requesting a Chaperone
You are welcome to request a chaperone at any time:
- When booking your appointment
- On arrival at the surgery (please inform the receptionist)
- At any point during your consultation
If you feel more comfortable having someone present, please do not hesitate to ask — your request will always be respected.
What Is a Chaperone?
A chaperone is a trained member of our staff whose role is to:
- Support and reassure you during the examination
- Maintain professional boundaries
- Provide an additional layer of safety and reassurance for both patient and clinician
If You Decline a Chaperone
You are free to decline a chaperone if you wish. However, in some circumstances, the clinician may feel it is appropriate to have a chaperone present and may rearrange the examination if one is not available.
Our Commitment to You
We aim to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all patients. Your comfort and wellbeing are always our priority.
